About this limited edition photograph:

The long exposure photograph “Electric Tree of Life” was created in the Butterfly Garden (Community Prairie) in Decorah, Iowa.

I have always wanted to capture lightning with an oak tree silhouetted, and this photograph proved to be one of the more dangerous photographs that I have created. Standing in an open prairie next to a metal tripod and holding an umbrella during an intense lightning storm is not one of my smartest decisions, but I am pleased with the result. I created a number of long exposure lightning photographs that night as the lightning was continuously flashing. My nerves were at high alert, and I promptly left the prairie as soon as I knew that I got the shot.

I placed my Canon T3i camera on a tripod and used a long exposure of 49 seconds to create this photograph.
