About this limited edition photograph:

The light painted photograph “Maclurites Spiral Galaxy” was created on the Trout Run Trail near Walmart in Decorah, Iowa.

To create this light painted photograph I placed a collection of Maclurite fossils on the dried mud in a spiral pattern. I then setup my Canon T3i camera on a tripod facing straight down and I used a long exposure of 51 seconds. I used a single sparkler firework to illuminate the photograph. By placing a stick over the top of the sparkler I was able to prevent the bright tip from showing up in the photograph, and instead I was able to capture all of the fuzzy sparks that shoot out from the sparkler.

This photograph came off my camera as-is, and involved zero post-processing or Photoshop.
