About this limited edition photograph:

The light painted photograph “Guarded Jewels” was created in a hillside valley on Twin Springs Road in Decorah, Iowa.

I was walking along Twin Springs Road one day when I noticed some beautiful icicles draped over a short fall in the hillside valley above me. Later that night I returned with my camera gear and light tools. I placed my Canon T3i camera on a tripod and used a long exposure of 536 seconds to create this light painted photograph. I used an ultraviolet flashlight to shine light in horizontal lines in the snow above the icicles. I also held that ultraviolet flashlight up to each icicle to make them glow, being careful not to bump an icicle and break it off. Finally, I used a handheld laser level to project red laser lines one at a time from top to bottom. 

This photograph came off my camera as-is, and involved zero post-processing or Photoshop.
