The photograph “Coldwater Cave- Rock River Formation” was created in a private cave located in Winneshiek County, Iowa.
I created this photograph by setting up my Canon 80d camera with a Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II lens on a tripod in the flowing cave stream. The caver shown in the photograph, KJ Passaro, held a bulb camera flash in front of his body and popped it off to illuminate the bulk of the photograph. Sara Schmuecker stood behind the hanging cave formation (Rock River Formation) and popped off a second bulb camera flash. Both camera flashes were set off during the single 9 second exposure.
